Jeremy Corbyn’s house BLOCKED after climate change protesters GLUE themselves to fence
Men and women from the group Extinction Rebellion glued their hands and arms together and sat on the ground outside the Islington terrace of the veteran left-winger today as part of a city-wide demonstration condemned by commuters. Mr Corbyn was pictured walking past them to get out of his home and said nothing when asked for a comment by reporters. Extinction Rebellion said in a statement chaotic demonstrations over the past 48 hours were part of a “peaceful protest” on climate change.
They added: “Our aim is to create moments in time when humanity stops and fully considers the extent of the harm we have done and are doing to life on earth.
“It is vitally important at this time. It is a matter of life and death – whether you live in Tower Hamlets or Taipei, Melbourne or Mumbai.”
The group stopped 55 buses running today as they flooded the streets of Oxford Circus and Parliament Square.
The London Metropolitan Police have arrested 300 demonstrators so far.
This morning, a man and a woman dressed in business attire climbed the roof of a DLR train at Canary Wharf and glued themselves to it, while another man in a high vis vest glued his hand to the window.
Police eventually removed them but the platform – one of many today – had to be closed off.
Trains operating around the city suffered, with many workers opting for taxis to get around in a bid to avoid public transport altogether.
Commuters voiced their anger at the protests, with one branding it “ridiculous”, while another urged police to “just get out there and arrest and jail the lot of them”, the Daily Mail Online reports.
A passerby raged: “I’m going to be late for work now! How dare these people inconvenience others getting from one place to the other!”
The demonstrators have been likened to Glastonbury festival-goers for stopping cars and buses by doing yoga in the street, dancing and singing.
London mayor Sadiq Khan was quizzed over the London climate protests by a Sky News host who asked the Labour politician why more hadn’t been done to halt the disruption facing Londoners.
Jayne Secker asked him: “Can you understand the anger of many people in London who are not able to get past these protesters and will look at you as Mayor and say ‘why haven’t you done more to stop them’?”
Mr Khan replied: “Look, our city for decades or centuries has been the capital city where people do protest.”
