The former leader of the Labour Party took to Twitter today as he “delivered a letter from 20 MPs” demanding their right as Parliamentarians to visit Julian Assange, who has been held in Belmarsh prison for two years.
He posted an image of himself, Diane Abbott and MP for Leeds East, Richard Burgon, as well as Stella Morris, Mr Assange’s partner.
He tweeted: “This morning @HackneyAbbott @RichardBurgeon and I joined Stella and Max – the partner and son of Julian Assange who has been held in Belmarsh prison for two years.
“We delivered a letter from 20 MPs demanding to exercise our right as Parliamentarians to visit him. #FreeAssange.”
However, many eagle-eyed social media users pointed out Mr Corbyn wrongly tagged the account, Richard Burgeon – instead of Richard Burgon MP.
Richard Burgeon’s Twitter account is based in Colorado and includes some historic likes for half-naked men, according to social media users.
Following Mr Corbyn’s gaffe, Twitter users took to social media to mock the former Opposition leader.
One person wrote: “Corbyn’s just mixed up Richard Burgon with another Twitter user, Richard Burgeon, who happens to be a male porn account.”
Someone else said: “I hear Richard Burgeon is mounting a leadership challenge!
“Err definitely mounting something anyway!”
Others simply responded using laughing face emojis with one person saying: “Oh my God!”
While another added: “Probably get much more sense from pornstar Richard.”
Another Twitter user branded Mr Corbyn an “idiot” and others said: “Richard Burgeon for Labour leader!”

Someone else wrote: “Easy to mistake one big dick for another I guess.”
Another said Richard Burgeon is “going to be a bit confused when he checks his Twitter notifications”.
While another Twitter user mocked: “Hilarious that he tagged the wrong Richard Burgon… and you think JC would be a good PM! Jeez!”
And someone else commented: “So typical of the old coot!
“He can’t get even the simplest things right!”
Another wrote: “Who is this Richard BURGEON?”
It appears this mix-up has happened on multiple occasions as earlier this month, he tweeted: “I am not in any way associated with anyone in the UK or Europe.
“Whoever added me to the comment list and accused me of falsehoods needs to find the account of the person they intended.
“It’s defamation to me, so correct your mistake.”
Mr Corbyn has been a vocal supporter of Mr Assange – who could be extradited to the US where he faces a computer hacking charge.
In 2019, the Wikileaks co-founder was arrested for a separate charge at Ecuador’s London embassy, where he had been granted asylum since 2012.
Mr Corbyn tweeted at the time: “The extradition of Julian Assange to the US for exposing evidence of atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan should be opposed by the British government.”
