Although Boris Johnson announced yesterday lockdown rules would be relaxed, many people are concerned easing has come too early and will not be making the most of them. The Express.co.uk asked: “Will you take advantage of the relaxation of lockdown rules?” In response, 1,285 people (53 percent of respondents) said they would not.

In contrast, 1,068 people (44 percent) said they would.

Just 87 people (three percent) said they didn’t know.

The poll began at midnight last night, following the Government’s alterations to the lockdown policy.

It closed at 9.30am this morning.

Next month the social distancing rule will be reduced from 2m to 1m.

As of Saturday, July 4th the hospitality industry will also be allowed to reopen.

Mr Johnson said yesterday: “We’re today publishing guidance on how business can reduce the risk by taking certain steps to protect workers and customers.

“And these include, for instance, avoiding face-to-face seating by changing office layouts, reducing the number of people in enclosed spaces, improving ventilation, using protective screens and face coverings, closing non-essential social spaces, providing hand sanitiser, changing shift patterns so that staff work in set teams.”

There are some fears of a second wave of COVID-19 reaching the UK.

Both the government’s chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance and the chief medical officer for England Professor Chris Whitty have said Mr Johnson’s plan was not “risk-free”.

An open letter in the British Medical Journal, signed by health leaders, said: “While the future shape of the pandemic in the UK is hard to predict, the available evidence indicates that local flare-ups are increasingly likely and a second wave a real risk.
