In a frank discussion with talkRADIO, Mr Chilton said people “on the Left” and “the Right” need to understand their support for continued crossings of migrants is supporting people smugglers and that their focus must be pulled away from supporting the “status quo” as it is currently. The councillor went on to demand action to sort out the growing crisis branding it a “crime” how it has been allowed to continue. His comments come as a record number of migrants attempted to cross the English Channel on Monday. It is thought at least 1,000 migrants including women and children landed on the Kent coast smashing the previous record of 828 migrants was reached on August 21.
The record numbers are reportedly down to human trafficking gangs in France taking the chance of the good weather in the English Channel.
Following the record day, Mr Chilton acknowledged how despite the numbers increasing “quite dramatically” the Government are still not sticking to their promises to take control of the borders.
He slammed: “The Government promised to take back control of our borders and they have completely failed to do so.
“I personally think Priti Patel needs to resign!”

He suggested how Ms Patel “has lost control of her department” and has been unable to take control of the spiralling crisis on the Kent coast despite her hard talk on immigration.
Mr Chilton went on to slam the Home Secretary following her promise and then threat to withhold a £54 million handout to French President Emmanuel Macron in order his order force to better patrol the coastline where migrants depart for the United Kingdom from.
The Labour councillor then unleashed fury at Britons who argue that the UK should not prevent migrants from crossing the channel.
He explained: “Crossing of the channel is an organised crime! Asylum seekers and migrants don’t carry 12-foot rubber dinghies from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.”
France ‘can rescue’ migrants as well says Julia Hartley-Brewer
He explained that instead migrants are being exploited by organised criminal gangs who command extortionate prices from desperate migrants to assist them in their crossing to the UK.
He added: “So when some on the left in this country say ‘we must allow them to keep coming’ and when some on the right say ‘we shouldn’t attack the government’…
“The people that argue for the current status quo to continue have got blood on their hands!”
Mr Chilton expressed his concern over such an attitude which he argued indirectly supports the people traffickers behind the thousands of migrant crossings.

He pleaded how he did not want to see any more “bodies wash up on the Kent coast” and warned if the attitude by some to keep the crisis as it is without acting to prevent crossings, the situation will continue to get worse.
The Labour councillor asked: “How many more hundreds of children and women and young men have drowned in the channel because they have been hit by a big boat? It’s a crime what is going on and nobody is dealing with it!”
Monday’s arrivals brought the total number of people who have crossed the UK aboard small boats this year to more than 12,500, according to data from the PA news agency.
Home Secretary Priti Patel has previously said she will make the route “unviable” for people wanting to enter the UK illegally.
