Royal editor Rob Jobson warned the Royal Family was in “turmoil” as it attempts to reorganise following Prince Philip’s death and also the continuing fallout from Prince Harry and Meghan’s interview. Mr Jobson made the startling claim that US audiences see the monarchy as “white supremacists” and that things have gone “bonkers” for the institution’s image. He warned that members would need to step up now that Philip has passed and added the Queen would not be able to weather the storm on her own.

Speaking to Australian The Morning Show, Mr Jobson was asked how the family could bounce back and “just get on with it” following the death of Prince Philip.

He replied: “Currently [Prince Philip] will be a tough act to follow, the reality is ‘just get on with it’ was his phrase.

“But you know we have a monarchy in transition at the moment and we have a monarchy in a little bit of turmoil.

“With all this Meghan Markle stuff calling them racists and they don’t care about mental health.

“Half of America think the Royal Family are white supremacists – it’s all gone a bit bonkers.”

The commentator then added:”So the reality is it’s time for them to get themselves together, to stop the squabbling because they’re appointing a diversity tsar so someone is going to get a fat cheque.

“But the reality is they’ve got to step up.

“What’s going to happen? The Queen is 95 she can’t be expected to carry on in the same way she has been.

“She’s going to carry on as Queen unless she goes into a situation where she’s not physically or mentally able to do so.”

Prince Philip funeral: Royal family follow coffin in procession

It is believed the Royal Family have organised an unofficial rota to attend the Queen’s 95th birthday on April 21 so the monarch is not alone during her period of grieving.

However, while many hoped Prince Harry would stay for the event due to his open return ticket to America Royal Editor Russell Myers was told the prince would soon return to the US.

It confirms reports that the Duke of Sussex was “desperate” to return to his heavily pregnant wife who was advised not to travel to the funeral.

Meghan Markle also revealed she did not want to be the “centre of attention” if she did attend and sent flowers and tributes ahead of the funeral.

Prince Harry is expected to return to the UK in June for the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue at Kensington Palace on July 1.

The statue has been in the works for several years with both Harry and William commissioning the piece.

It would have been the first time the brothers reunited after Harry’s departure in early 2020 if Philip had not died.
