IT failure causes flight chaos at Manchester airport

The computer glitch left long queues of people snaking throughout terminal one at the airport from lunchtime until late afternoon.

Many complained about the lack of refreshments and information handed out by airport staff while the IT issue was fixed.

One passenger, who asked not to be named, said: “Hundreds stuck in terminal one due to check-in system failure. Lots of flights affected. Hundreds of people just left in queues.”

Another added: “There have been no refreshments handed out and no information.”

Susan Oman tweeted: “You can’t even see the end of the zig-zagging queue to check in bags on Air Canada. Yes, this is hours for only one airline.”

A Manchester Airport spokesman said last night: “The IT issue affecting check-in earlier today has now been resolved and we apologise to our passengers for the inconvenience this may have caused to their journey.”
