Is Boris Johnson ‘stealing’ Brexit Party’s ideas? Farage forced to keep policies ‘secret’

The Brexit Party MEP also noted similarities emerging between the two parties, referring to Tory conferences becoming “more like a Brexit rally”. Belinda de Lucy claimed the Brexit Party are keeping some of their policies “secret”, out of fear they will be “nicked” by the Conservative Party. Speaking on BrexBox, Ms de Lucy said: “His priority is the destruction of the Brexit Party.

“So if you notice his conferences are getting more like a Brexit rally, his colours are changing to turquoise, and he’s stealing all our policies.

“People keep saying ‘where are all your policies?’ well we’re keeping a few secret because the Tories keep nicking them.”

Brexit Party MEP Lucy Harris remarked: “Sajid Javid said that they were going to start to take away the inheritance tax as well, in one of his talks at the Tory Party conference.

“So that’s another one of our policies taken.”

Brexit Party North West MEP Dr David Bull said: “I know we’ve spoken a great deal about whether we should reveal any more policies, and the answer is no, because they get stolen.”

The comments come as Mr Johnson presented the EU with his final Brexit proposals to replace the controversial backstop protocol agreed between the Brussels bloc and Theresa May.

The plan would see Northern Ireland remaining in the EU single market – pending the Northern Ireland Assembly’s approval – and out of the EU customs union.

The EU and Dublin have so far trashed the alternative plan as it would create a hard border for customs on the island of Ireland – something both parties have always pledged to avoid.

But the Prime Minister is still hopeful the plan could be the basis of a new agreement which he believes will also have the approval of the Commons. Arch-Brexiteers in the Conservative Party and the DUP have already given their approval to the new proposals.

The Prime Minister needs to get a deal by October 19 to secure an October 31 exit. If he fails to do so, Mr Johnson might be forced to ask for an extension to the Article 50 process as dictated by the Benn Act – approved by Parliament last month.

Meanwhile, Brexit party leader Nigel Farage was critical of the proposals from Mr Johnson, insisting it was an “attempt to put lipstick on a pig”, as he demanded a clean break from the EU.

Mr Johnson appealed to MPs in the House of Commons on Thursday after he outlined his Brexit proposals to the British public on Wednesday afternoon.

Tweeting after the publication of the Prime Minister’s Brexit plan, Mr Farage claimed the proposals could be compared to “putting your head in a crocodile’s mouth and hoping for the best”.

Writing in the Telegraph, the Brexit Party leader admitted the document contained some “positive aspirations”, but still resembles “nothing so much as an attempt to put lipstick on a pig”.

Despite the criticism, Mr Farage revealed the likely reason the plans would be rejected as he outlined “some potentially good news to cheer up Brexiteers”.

He said: “The stated desire for the UK to leave the customs union at the end of the transition period and to cease regulatory alignment (Northern Ireland aside) marks a change in our nation’s ambition.

“From the start, Barnier’s key goal was to stop the UK from being outside the EU rulebook and, therefore, from becoming competitive. Johnson seems to have rejected this.”

But, Mr Farage claimed for this “very reason I doubt the EU will accept Johnson’s proposals” as it would allow the UK to “break free and become more successful than the EU”.
