Iran to face Britain’s wrath as UK prepares to play MAJOR role in coalition against Tehran
Officials from Britain and the US aremeeting in Behrain tomorrow to discuss the plan of a UK-led coalition. Under Boris Johnson’s new Government, the UK, US, France and Germany are all meeting in the Gulf to put into play a maritime protection force. ,Britain is expected to play a major role in the US-led coalition, Whitehall sources have told Sky News.
The meeting will be in Bahrain, the location where the US Fifth Fleet is currently situated alongside a Royal Navy base.
The gathering is a follow-up from a noter held in Tampa Bay, Florida, last Thursday – the day Mr Johnson took over from former Prime Minister Theresa May.
Military officers from more than two dozen countries were reported to have attended the conference.
The news comes as Mr Johnson announced the Royal Navy was now protecting British-flagged ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
On Monday, Iran released footage appearing to show its Revolutionary Guard commandos warning Royal Navy warship HMS Montrose the lives of its crew could be in danger.
The exchanges between the two sides were released by Tehran as Royal Navy destroyer HMS Duncan arrived in the Gulf to protect British ships.
The video includes a shot apparently filmed on the day the Stena Impero was captured from above HMS Montrose in an attempt to show the Royal Navy was unable to prevent Iran seizing the oil tanker.
In the near two-minute video released by the Iranian Guard, an officer is heard telling the Montrose: “You are ordered to not interfere in my operation.”
The Iranian officer repeats: “You are required not to interfere in this issue.”
An officer on board the Montrose replies: “This is British warship Foxtrot 236.
“I am in vicinity of the internationally recognised strait with a merchant vessel in my vicinity conducting transit passage.”
The Iranian officer is then heard saying: “Don’t put your life in danger”, before adding the tanker was now under Iranian control.
