Investigation underway after priest (81) dies in fatal hit and run

An elderly priest has died following a hit and run in Co Roscommon late last night.

Gardai are investigating the incident which occurred in Keadue, Co Roscommon, at approximately 11pm last night.

The victim, an 81-year-old priest based in Dublin, was walking when he was struck by a car which failed to remain at the scene.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 20-year-old man, who gardai say was the driver of the car involved, later presented himself at Carrick-On-Shannon Garda Station.

A full and forensic and technical examination of the scene in Keadue was underway today, and diversions are in place.
