Internet down: When will the the internet be back?

Major sites such as gov.uk and Amazon went down this morning as well as a range of major news websites such and The Guardian, New York Times, CNN, Le Monde and Buzzfeed sparking global confusion. 

Those trying to access the sites were met with a message reading “Error 503 Service Unavailable.”

The crash left many unable to access essential information on gov.uk and news from some of the major outlets. 

The Guardian tweeted: “The Guardian’s website and app are currently being affected by a wider internet outage and will be back as soon as possible”.

The crash appears to have happened worldwide leaving many internet users frustrated. 

The crash was due to faults by US firm Fastley, an internet content delivery service. 

They say they are investigating an outage on its platform which may have caused the crash. 

The outage has taken dozens of major websites offline.
