Instagram down for thousands as users told their accounts are suspended

Thousands of Instagram users are having trouble logging into their accounts due to a mysterious outage.

Many took to social media to complain that they were locked out of the popular Meta-owned platform.

Users are being greeted with an error message that says that their account has been ‘suspended for 30 days’.

According to service status website Down Detector, users began reporting issues with Instagram this afternoon around 12 pm, with more than 2,200 reports posted by 1.30 pm.

‘My account now just isn’t showing up?? like, my page isnt there all my pics are gone. my personal, everything,’ wrote another user.

Frustrustrated users are worried about loding years worth of pictures while businesses are scared of losing their massive follower counts built over time.

People have tried using Instagram’s verification system where a code is sent to the user’s registered mobile number but to no avail as the code never seems to arrive.

Instagram took to Twitter to announce that they were aware of the issue and were looking into it.

We’re aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We’re looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience. #instagramdown
