Inside ‘mayhem’ at Morrisons as staff ‘leaving due to working conditions’

A disgruntled Morrisons employee has laid bare the chaos the supermarket is allegedly experiencing with “staff starting to leave due to working conditions”.

The furious staff member claimed the supermarket had slashed hours of staff as it battles a financial crisis over the festive period.

Despite the employee’s claims, Morrisons insisted it was “not a picture we recognise at all” adding its “wonderful colleagues” were “doing a brilliant job helping” customers.

Morrisons’ new boss Rami Baitiéh has previously told staff that huge changes at the chain was needed in order for it to clamp down on billions of pounds of debt in order to survive.

And according to the unnamed staff member, the company has cut her hours and not employed any Christmas temps. This has caused chaos at shops, including the Newcastle branch which saw giant queues outside the shop.

She has even said her hours have been cut from 35 each week to just seven.

As a result she’s lost out on more than £800 a month.

According to the MailOnline, she said: “I was working 35 hours at Christmas week last year and cashing in around £1260 a month – but that’s been cut to 12 hours and I’m only earning around £400 now.

“Because everyone’s hours have been cut, there’s barely anyone on the shop floor which is making it hard for us to keep up with demand.

“It’s the week before Christmas and it’s manic but we don’t have the numbers to make sure everything is stocked and we can serve people quickly.”

The employee added that “staff are starting to leave due to the working conditions”.

“We have hired 3,500 temporary staff this year and invested millions in additional Christmas hours.

“Our shops are busy, bright, colourful and cheerful; full of wonderful colleagues who are doing a brilliant job helping our customers have great food at great value this Christmas.”
