Huntsman chased up and down road by enormous flightless bird
This is the moment a flightless bird chases a huntsman on a busy road.
In a bizarre clash between a escaped rhea and a rider in Warwickshire, the huntsman appears spooked by the skittish bird.
The rhea is shown in jerking footage – filmed by West Midland Hunt Saboteurs – chasing the rider up and down the road.
A member of the Warwickshire hunt appears to be less than happy after coming up against the enormous bird – which is believed to have escaped in the village of Avon Dassett, near Banbury.
In the footage, a woman can be heard saying to someone thought to be associated with the hunt: ‘This is your responsibility, your hounds were in with those, are you going to do anything about it?
‘You lot are unbelievable.’
She adds: ‘It has been frightened by a pack of hounds.
‘It is now being frightened by your rider.’
Another person says the hounds ‘were not meant to be’ in the area.
One witness, who asked not to be named, explained: ‘The huntsmen’s hounds were barking near a small holding that contained ostriches from a nearby farm.
‘As a result a young rhea escaped and started running on the road – it was very close to the M40 motorway.’
Rheas are flightless birds native to South America, which can reach grow to nearly 6ft tall and weigh up to 40kg.
