Hunt for three men over 'shocking' homophobic attack in Birmingham's Gay Village

Police are hunting three men suspected of being behind a ‘shocking’ and ‘outrageous’ homophobic attack in Birmingham.

Rob and Patrick, both in their 30s, had not long left the Missing Bar in the city’s Gay Village when they were targeted shortly after 4am last Sunday, August 15.

They were subjected to homophobic slurs before being attacked with bottles and left in the street covered in blood.

Patrick was knocked out during the attack, with Rob, who suffered deep cuts, telling the BBC the Gay Village ‘should be a safe area to be who you want’, adding that it was ‘shocking that this would happen in 2021’.

West Midlands Police said extensive enquiries have taken place, including analysis of CCTV footage and witness statements, and it can now name the men.

Officers wish to speak with Sohail Khan, 24, Mosin Mahmood, 31, and Ishaaq Ayaz, 21, all from Birmingham.

Sergeant Marc Petford said: ‘We have already completed a number of arrest attempts for the men; I would encourage them to hand themselves in and speak to us.

‘This was a shocking homophobic attack on two men enjoying a night-out in our city.

‘It’s outrageous and we’re determined to bring to justice the people responsible.’

Police are urging anyone with information on the men’s whereabouts to get in touch, quoting log 552 of August 15.
