Hundreds of people lined the streets of Caerphilly in Wales today to say goodbye to Jack Lis, who was killed by a dog.

The 10-year-old died after being attacked as he played at a friend’s house on November 8.

Crowds wore red and clapped as the youngster’s funeral procession made its way through Caerphilly.

The procession, led by Jack’s favourite cars including a Back to the Future-style DeLorean stopped outside his school, where classmates paid tribute.

It then continued on to St Martin’s Church, where songs Start Over by Flame, See You Again by Wiz Kalifa, and Family Tree by Ramz were played at the service.

The Reverend Mark Greenway Robbins told the congregation: ‘None of us expected to be here and no one wanted to be here, but let us take a moment to think of how we remember Jack.

‘Hold onto that particular memory of him that you treasure him for and thank him for. And let’s honour him for a moment in the quiet together.

‘As we remember times of tears and laughter we thank God because of the love we shared for Jack.’

The order of service showed photos of Jack playing in a park, in his school uniform and on a scooter, as well as pictures of a selection of cars.

Following his death, a fundraiser to help heartbroken mum Emma Whitfield, 32, pay for his funeral topped more than £16,400.

Jack’s family asked any further donations go to the 2 Wish Upon A Star charity which helps bereaved families who have lost children.

An inquest into Jack’s death, held earlier this month, heard the youngster had been ‘playing with a friend’ in Penyrheol when he was attacked by the dog.

The inquest heard paramedics were called but Jack’s injuries were ‘unsurvivable’ and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the hearing, Jack’s family paid tribute to the youngster.

In a statement, they said: ‘We are absolutely heartbroken. Our lives will never be the same without Jack.

‘This is not something any parent should ever have to be writing.

‘We have so many words we want to say about our beautiful boy, but they do not seem enough.

‘We love him more than words can describe. Our boy made us the proudest parents and family on the planet. He was the sweetest of boys.

‘We will forever miss his quirky ways and his stories that he would spend so long telling us.

‘He’s forever in our hearts. Sweet dreams Jack, our perfect boy.’

Matthew Young, Emma’s cousin, set up the fundraising campaign with a target of £5,000 – before doubling it following a string of donations.

He said: ‘Many people have expressed their deepest condolences and have asked to contribute in some way towards the funeral costs to help the family at this very difficult and emotional time.

‘So it is with extreme heartache that I write this to give those wishing to donate, a place to do so.”

He added: ‘Jack was a loving caring young boy who will be greatly missed, never forgotten, and always in our hearts. Fly high sweet, sweet boy’.
