Huge fire erupts in London as dark black smoke billows high into sky

Fire erupts at London’s Elephant and Castle

A huge fire has erupted in Elephant and Castle, south London. Social media was flooded with footage of the devastating fire, with huge plumes of smoke rising into the sky. The fire, which is thought to have erupted close to Walworth Road, could be seen from across the capital.

Residents close to Elephant and Castle reported seeing “dramatic” pillars of smoke.

The fire is thought to have erupted this evening, with accounts of the incident appearing on social media around 7:30pm

One person @nellonthemelon tweeted: “You can see the fire in elephant and castle from the rooftop bar I’m at.”

@JuninTKD tweeted footage of black smoke pouring into the sky above London, adding: “Well… this can’t be good.”
