Huge fire breaks out at National Grid station as staff evacuated
A fire has erupted at a key National Grid station sparking the evacuation of workers and neighbours.
Plumes of smoke were seen billowing up from the IFA interconnector site in Sellindge, Ashford.
Dozens of firefighters were scrambled to tackle the blaze in the early hours, with at least 12 fire engines called to the scene.
The National Grid said: ‘The site has been evacuated and the safety of our staff, emergency teams and local residents is our highest priority.
‘We will provide a further update in due course.’
Nearby residents have been warned they may experience a dip in water pressure during the ongoing incident.
