Huge explosion at Russian petrol station kills 30 including three kids

The death toll of a huge explosion at a petrol station in Russia has increased to 30.

The explosion happened on the outskirts of Makhachkala in the country’s southern republic of Dagestan on Monday night – which has declared Tuesday as a day of mourning.

Three of those killed were children and so far 105 people have been reported injured.

Some of the injured victims were airlifted to Moscow, which is around 1,000 miles away, for treatment.

Russia’s emergency ministry said a fire started at a nearby car garage before spreading to the petrol station.

The huge fire affected an area of 600 square metres and 260 emergency workers have been deployed.

Authorities have started a criminal investigation into the blast. They said families of those killed will receive 1 million rubles (£7,870) each, and those injured will get 200,000-400,000 rubles (£1,600-£3,150).
