'Huge disruption' as London bus drivers to strike this month

London bus drivers will stage a series of strikes this month in a row over pay and working conditions.

Members of Unite based in several parts of the capital will walk out from February 22 and have warned there will be more strikes if the dispute is not resolved.

Issues include pay, access to toilet and rest facilities, and concerns about driver fatigue.

The union is in dispute with French-owned company RATP, which operates three subsidiaries in the London bus network.

Workers at London United, which provides bus services in south and west London, will take strike action on February 22, 23 and 24.

Workers based at a depot in Epsom, Surrey, will strike on February 22 and 23, while Unite members in north-west London, will strike on February 22.

Unite regional officer Michelle Braveboy said: ‘Workers are taking industrial action as a last resort as the company has refused to listen to reason and continue with the negotiations.

‘They understand that bus strikes will cause huge disruption to the general public but believe they have no choice but to defend terms and conditions and ensure a fair pay offer.’
