Kate and William wed in a lavish ceremony in 2011 after years of courtship. Their long-awaited nuptials were a cause for celebration up and down the country, and prompted an increase in the Royal Family’s popularity. Nine years and three children later, Kate and William are still among the most popular royals — a fact which undoubtedly pleases the Queen.

According to royal correspondent Victoria Murphy, William’s grandmother was in high spirits on his special day.

Writing for the Daily Mirror in March 2012, Ms Murphy explained why the Queen was especially delighted at their union.

She wrote: “The deafening cheers greeting the newlyweds as they stepped on to the balcony at Buckingham Palace spoke far louder than words.

“Nothing could have told the Queen more clearly how important Kate Middleton was going to be to the Royal Family.

“It was clear that the wedding of commoner Kate to her grandson Prince William had inspired the nation – and beyond, as two billion people watched worldwide.”

A courtier also told the reporter: “The Queen was so happy on the wedding day, she was practically skipping.

“Seeing her family full of joy and also seeing the public support and excitement touched her greatly.

“She was very supportive of William and Kate leading up to the wedding and nothing could have reaffirmed more than the potential to achieve great things for the monarchy.

“The whole of Britain seemed to have turned up to wish them well.”

Several insiders have claimed over the years that the Queen is particularly fond of her granddaughter-in-law Kate and has high hopes for her future as the Queen consort.

However, the monarch was initially a little apprehensive about Kate joining the royal fold.

Coming back from a family outside of aristocratic circles, there was a fear that she would struggle to adapt with the pressures and responsibilities of being royal.

The Queen subsequently made sure that Kate was able to take on various roles at her own pace.

Kate received weeks of tutoring by Buckingham Palace on etiquette, French language, local politics and the Canadian Constitution before her 10-day tour of Canada and the US in 2011.

The Queen even lent Kate her diamond maple leaf brooch, which she wore herself on her first trip to Canada in 1951, demonstrating how the Queen had high hopes for the Duchess of Cambridge’s diplomatic skills.

Back in 2012, another insider explained: “So far, Kate has shown herself to be more than willing and more than capable.

“She is humble and keen to learn and the Queen likes that.

“She has grown very fond of her and recognises the impact she is having on the public.”

The Queen reportedly had concerns over the fact that Kate did not have a career prior to joining the Royal Family in 2011, too.

However, the Duchess of Cambridge has since shown herself to be more than capable of the responsibility.

Following Megxit, many commentators recognized that Kate had ‘stepped up her game’ and taken more of the royal spotlight than ever before.

The general public has since commended her for her success.
