How Queen Elizabeth II hosted exclusive celebrity sleepover at Windsor Castle – ‘It’s fun’

The special guests were invited to attend an exclusive “dine and sleep” evening at Windsor Castle. Guests arrive for dinner and view items from the royal collection, staying overnight and departing after breakfast. Her Majesty and Prince Philip also gave their guests a tour of the castle before they bedded down for the night.

The Queen and Philip hosted the event during the Easter break during their stay at Windsor castle.

Helena Bonham Carter was one of the guests who stayed at the royal residence.

She described to the Radio Times her stay at the castle with fellow thespians Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig.

The event happened “about 10 years ago”, claimed the actress.

She added: “It’s fun! Rachel Weisz was there with James Bond. I stayed in Prince Charles’s rooms.

“We had supper and the Queen and Prince Philip gave us a tour.”

She added how the Royal couple had found something from their archive that each of the guests would appreciate.

The actress said: “I had a letter from Lionel Logue, who was the King’s speech therapist. It was really touching.”

Helena starred as the Queen Mother in blockbuster film ‘The King’s Speech’ back in 2010.

Her partner at the time, film director Tim Burton, was given a first edition of Alice in Wonderland.

The actress has more links to the royal family as she is soon to appear on screen as Princess Margaret in Netflix’s third series of the ’The Crown’.

As well as portraying the Queen’s sister, her uncle dated the Princess during his time as a guard.

Her links to Margaret have also remained strong in the afterlife, as Helena revealed to the publication she sought the late Princess Margaret’s opinion of her portrayal of her through a medium.

Helena was asked if the Princess, who died in 2002, would like her upcoming performance in ‘The Crown’.

She responded: “I asked her via a medium! Oh, she has a great sense of humour.”

The Actress expanded further on the advice given to her from beyond the grave.

Helena added: “She said, apparently, she was glad it was me.

“My main thing when you play someone who is real, you kind of want their blessing because you have a responsibility.

“So I asked her: ‘Are you OK with me playing you?’ and she said: ‘You’re better than the other actress’ that they were thinking of. They will not admit who it was. It was me and somebody else.”

Helena added: “That made me think maybe she is here, because that is a classic Margaret thing to say.

“She was really good at complimenting you and putting you down at the same time.

The actress claimed Margaret told her she had to “brush up and be more groomed and neater”.

Helena also claimed the Princess suggested she needed to adjust her smoking technique.

She added how the Princess told her to “get the smoking right” because she “smoked in a particular way”.

Helena said Margaret added: “‘I smoked in a very particular way.

“Remember that – this is a big note – the cigarette holder was as much a weapon for expression as it was for smoking.’”
