How Meghan Markle used to spend her Thanksgiving before becoming the Duchess of Sussex

Meghan is spending today her first Thanksgiving as a mother with Prince Harry, Archie and Doria Ragland. The whereabouts of the family-of-three are being kept a secret for security reasons and to grant Meghan and Harry some quiet time.

While little is known of today’s celebrations, Meghan has in the past spoken about her Thanksgiving days, scattering details around her now-closed Instagram account and defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig.

The self-confessed foodie showed off her culinary skills in 2016, when she published a picture of a perfectly-cooked turkey.

The caption read: “Oh, that time I roasted a pretty perfect Thanksgiving turkey!

“The question is, can I do it again? The pressure is on!”

On her blog, Meghan published a recipe with her take on a lighter Thanksgiving.

While the now-Duchess of Sussex explained replacing the traditional turkey with a chicken would make less of a carbohydrate-fuelled meal, she also promised eating it would make everyone feel like “the King or Queen of happy bellies and full hearts”.

Sharing a recipe by nutritionists Dr Junger and Dhru Purohit, known as The Clean Team, Meghan wrote: “I love a brined, stuffed and roasted turkey as much as anyone, but if you’re cooking for two, maybe a smaller bird is more up your alley – and coupled with a beautiful side and a delicious dessert, you will be The King or Queen of happy bellies and full hearts.”

Meghan continued praising the benefits of this recipe, to be followed by almond butter bites dipped in chocolate.

She said: “I would say this is some gobble gobble good cooking.

“Plus there’s no carb coma aftermath because as you can imagine, they are all Clean Eats.

“Thank the good doctor!”

In another Instagram message, Meghan also opened up on her relationship with her parents Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle Snr.

Publishing a picture of her parents’ hands and their lavish Thanksgiving lunch, Meghan wrote: “Giving thanks for so many things – including these two gems, who brought me into this world.

“Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours.”

Meghan also revealed that she had spent some of her Thanksgiving with her parents giving back to her community.

The Duchess, who was brought up on LA, said: “Both my parents came from little, so they made a choice to give a lot – buying turkeys for homeless shelters at Thanksgiving, delivering meals to patients in hospice care, donating any spare change in their pocket to those asking for it, and performing quiet acts of grace.”

This year, “talented chef” Meghan will likely prepare the main meal in the company of her family and without any help of members of her royal staff, according to royal expert Katie Nicholl.

She told OK! magazine: “Meghan loves being in the kitchen.

“She’s a talented chef and takes great pleasure in bringing people together over a family meal.

“There won’t be any staff helping her – she’ll definitely be wearing the apron”.

Meghan and Harry are on a six-week break from royal duties, and will spend their Christmas holidays with Doria, as confirmed earlier this month by one of their spokespeople.
