Judi James said the Duchess Kate may have taken advice from the 93-year-old Queen to put on a “stoic” display with her sister-in-law Meghan Markle after facing months of reports about a long-running feud. The body language expert said the pair, who were in the royal box as Meghan’s close friend Serena Williams crashed to a rapid defeat in the women’s singles final at Wimbledon, showed signs of a growing friendship, according to the Daily Mail. 

The pair even shared a sweet moment when champion Simona Halep said it would be “amazing” to meet Kate.  

Asked before Saturday’s match which one person she would want watching in the royal box, she said: “Kate. I like her.”

When BBC presenter Sue Barker informed the winning finalist on court she was about to meet Kate, Halep replied: “That’s amazing, I didn’t know that, so it’s even more special now.”

The admission prompted smiles from both Kate and Meghan, who apparently turned to the mother-of-three and said “ahh that’s so nice”. 

Meghan sat alongside her sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge, with the pair smiling and chatting with Kate’s sister Pippa Matthews in their seats in the box’s front row.

The duchess, who was dressed in a shirt and high-waisted blue and white skirt, was seen applauding the tennis action on Centre Court on Saturday afternoon.

After Williams crumbled to a straight sets defeat, both Kate and Meghan joined the crowd in a standing ovation for the new champion Simona Halep.

Kate was seen congratulating the Romanian on her win as she came off court, before Halep showed off her trophy from a Centre Court balcony to the crowd waiting outside.

Simona Halep beat Serena Williams to claim her first ever Wimbledon title.

The former World Number One beat the American in straight sets, taking the first 6-2.

The match was over in less than an hour. 

Despite a strong start in the second set from Williams, the Romanian was able to overcome and won her first grass Grand Slam title.

Serena Williams was hoping to equal the world record of 24 grand slam titles won by a female player today, which was set by Australian Margaret Court and has stood since the 1970s.
