Until now Kate, 36, was often pictured attending royal engagements, but never before have we seen the mother of three acting quite so candid and comfortable in front of the camera. Since the Sussexes have departed to Los Angeles, it has left a gap in the royal family to connect with millennials and the Duchess of Cambridge has stepped up to plate.

As demonstrated when she first appeared on a podcast hosted by TV personality Giovanna Fletcher.

The duchess showed her willingness in the interview to reveal her vulnerable side as she discussed the trials and tribulations of being a mother.

Many have not heard a royal since Princess Diana’s interview with Martin Bashir speak in such an insightful and natural way, as opposed to the conservative “stiff upper lip” tone preferred by the monarchy.

Royal author Leslie Carroll revealed that Meghan and Harry had provided a “strong template” for Kate to follow in their absence when it came to interacting with younger people.

She told Express.co.uk: “Harry and Meghan provided a strong template for how to be relatable to a younger audience.

“For quite a while, I sensed that the Cambridges and Sussexes were being unfairly compared against each other in the media.

“The brothers and their wives have starkly different personalities, not to mention different paths, professionally.”

Kate has often favoured working on projects close to her heart including her recent survey for children under the age of five to bring “lasting change” and “provide help” for parents with young children.

Ms Carroll added: “Now that the Sussexes are in the States, anonymously masked and handing out food to needy Los Angelenos.

“The field in the UK is open for the Cambridges to fill the void left by the Sussexes’ absence in terms of communicating with younger people, especially children. “

The Duchess of Cambridge appears to have found her thoroughly modern royal footing, by using Instagram to promote her charity and patronage causes.

On March 9, Kate uploaded a video clip of her visiting children as part of her work as Place 2 Be charity patron.

The video has received more than two million views and royal fans gushed over the footage.

One said: “Duchess of Cambridge, you are the rock of your family, amazing woman.”

Another replied: “I love Kate!”

A third commented: “Such an inspiration to so many.”

Ms Carroll explained: “This is where Kate has always excelled. Because she has tremendous empathy, as a devoted on-hands mum herself, she has a great deal of warmth and relatability; and it’s delightful to see her speaking to schoolchildren.

“Her own increasing comfort with doing this on social media has had an effect on William as well.

“He is not nearly as much of a “natural” as Harry, but necessity appears to be a good tutor!”

It comes as the royal couple remains in lockdown at their Anmer Hall home in Norfolk where they are isolating with their three young children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Prince Louis recently turned two and the Cambridge’s marked the occasion by uploading sweet snaps of the toddler with paint on his hands to there Kensington Royal accounts.
