Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, have spent the summer with their three children, Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three. But now September has arrived, the Cambridge children will be returning to school soon. George, Charlotte and Louis have likely enjoyed a fun-packed summer holiday, as royal experts say Kate is a hands-on mum who strives to create a happy environment for her children.
According to royal commentator Duncan Larcombe, Kate is raising her children based on the “template” of her own happy childhood.
Mr Larcombe told OK!: “Kate had a very happy childhood and really enjoyed her school days, so I think the way she was brought up is being used as a template for her own three children.
“She’s a very hands-on mum, so she always makes sure she’s the one going with the children to buy school shoes as well as stocking up on school stationery.
“Everything is very straightforward with William and Kate. Aside from the school fees, they’re bringing up their children in a quintessentially British middle-class way.”
One way Kate could be reflecting on her own childhood with her children is by ensuring her children are happy with their choice of school.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte are currently students at Thomas’s Battersea, a fee-paying school of nearly £8,000 term for George’s age group.
But over the coming years, royal experts think Kate may consider sending her children to the fee-paying school she attended, Marlborough College.
Kate is thought to have been involved in sport and enjoyed her time at the college, which she attended with her sister Pippa Middleton.
Mr Larcombe added: “They may well plump for Eton, the school where kings and prime ministers go.
“But I wouldn’t be surprised if they plumped for Kate’s school, Marlborough. It’s a mixed school and a very good one, so they might want to make a statement and send the children there.
“Kate’s parents worked really hard to give their children a really good education and sending her own children to Marlborough would definitely fit in with the Middleton-style template.”
Another way Kate could be mirroring her childhood with her own children is by making sure family time is high on the Cambridge’s schedule.

The Cambridge children have reportedly spent a lot of time with their maternal grandparents, Carole and Michael Middleton, over the summer months.
And Carole has previously spoken about how much she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren.
She told Good Housekeeping: “I want to run down the hills, climb the trees and go through the tunnel at the playground.
“As long as I am able to, that’s what I’ll be doing. I cook with them, I muck around dancing, we go on bike rides.”
Every summer, the Cambridges also bring their children to the Queen’s Scottish estate of Balmoral, to spend time with their great-grandmother.
The Cambridges’ regular trips to Scotland, and other staycation spots in the UK, is just another way Kate could be seen to be raising her children in the style of her childhood.
Over the UK lockdown, Kate and William are also thought to have taken their children to the Isles of Scilly in Cornwall for their family holiday.
Kate has been a keen advocate for people spending time in nature, helping to design her own ‘Back to Nature’ garden for the Chelsea Flower Show a few years ago.
Kate wrote one of her favourite childhood memories outside onto a paper tag that featured in the garden, which read: “Boulder hopping in the Lake District”.
And during the lockdown, Kate has spoken fondly of how she spends time with her children outside, with nature featuring significantly in her children’s schedule.
During the lockdown, a source previously told The Sun: “George, Charlotte and Louis are now relishing their freedom in the spacious gardens of Anmer Hall.
“Climbing frames, a climbing wall and swings are a big part of the Cambridge outdoors activity scene, and Kate will do pond dipping and note-taking to log what they have spotted.
“Birdwatching with binoculars is another favourite of the kids.”
