How Kate and William’s Pakistan tour will be ‘most complex’ undertaken by royals – details
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will travel to Pakistan on October 14 and will stay for five days before returning on Friday 18 October as pat of a tour that has been described as their most complex. It will be the royal couple’s first trip to Pakistan and it is unlikely their children will attend due to concerns over security. Their eldest children Prince George and Princess Charlotte also both attend school, meaning the Duke and Duchess are unlikely to want to take them away from their studies.
A statement by Kensington Palace said: “Throughout the tour, Their Royal Highnesses will visit programmes which empower young people, and organisations that help ensure they have the best possible start in life.
“Access to quality education, particularly to girls and young women is one of the UK’s top priorities in Pakistan. The Duke and Duchess are looking forward to spending time meeting young Pakistanis, and hearing more about their aspirations for the future.
“Their Royal Highnesses’ programme will also cover how communities in Pakistan are rapidly responding and adapting to the effects of climate change.
“This a key area of interest for Their Royal Highnesses; they are keen to learn more about the climate change issues affecting Pakistan and our world, and the positive work being undertaken to combat these challenges.
“Their Royal Highnesses will also spend time understanding the complex security picture in Pakistan. They will learn more about the challenges and opportunities, both of the past and today.”
It adds: “The UK has been a key partner for Pakistan, and The Duke and Duchess will meet UK and Pakistan military personnel who are sharing expertise to improve security.”
Further down, the statement refers to the risk involved in the couple flying to the nation.
It said: “This is the most complex tour undertaken by The Duke and Duchess to date, given the logistical and security considerations. Pakistan hosts one of Britain’s largest overseas networks, with the British High Commission in Islamabad being one of the UK’s largest diplomatic missions in the world.

“The UK’s links with Pakistan are extensive, and Their Royal Highnesses are looking forward to building a lasting friendship with the people of Pakistan.”
The couple shared pictures of their visit to the Aga Khan Centre in London less than two weeks before their royal tour.
Kensington Palace tweeted images of the couple with the caption: “Less than two weeks to go until the Royal Visit Pakistan.
“Today the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined his Highness The Aga Khan for a special event at the Aga Khan Centre, ahead of their official visit to Pakistan later this month.

“Organised in co-operation with the High Commission of Pakistan, today’s event showcased modern Pakistani culture, and saw The Duke and Duchess meet a range of people from Pakistan, including community leaders, those involved in British and Pakistani business, and key figures within the Diaspora community, including musicians, chefs and artists.
“The Aga Khan Development Network (@AKDN) has been working in Pakistan for over a century to improve the quality of life, promote pluralism, and enhance civil society.”
The announcement comes after the Queen visited Pakistan in 1961 and 1997.
She was accompanied by her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh began their state visit in Islamabad, where they were welcomed by the then President Farooq Leghari and afterwards visited the Faisal Masjid, a huge mosque in the city.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s tour will come two weeks after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned from South Africa.
