How Facebook spurred the 'yellow vest' protests
A new algorithm allowed organisers’ Facebook posts to generate lots of attention while traditional media was ignored.
France will have 89,000 police officers on duty across the country on Saturday as part of exceptional security measures ahead of more anti-government protests that have swelled in size, spurred by the attention organisers got on social media.
Media academics say that demonstrators feel Facebook is the real expression of the people. And journalists are viewed as elites, out of touch with the voice of the masses.
