Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced England will be placed under Plan B restrictions due to the growing number of Omicron cases. This means face masks are now mandatory in more venues, vaccine passports will be brought in for large scale venues and working from home is encouraged.

Plan B’s aim is to implement restrictions to ease pressures on the NHS and prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed.

Venues, where there are large crowds, will need guests to download the NHS Covid pass before attending.

Speaking from Downing Street Mr Johnson said: “Will also make the NHS COVID pass mandatory for entry into nightclubs and venues where large crowds gather, including unseated indoor venues with more than 500 people, and seated outdoor venues with more than 4,000 people and any venue with more than 10,000 people.”

“The NHS Covid pass can still be obtained with two doses but we will keep this under review as the boosters roll out.

“And having taken clinical advice since the emergence of Omicron, a negative lateral flow test will also be sufficient.

“As we set out in Plan B, we will give businesses a week’s notice, so this will come into force in a week’s time, helping to keep these events and venues open at full capacity while giving everyone who attends them confidence that those around them have done the responsible thing to minimise risk to others.”

Face masks will also be mandatory at public indoor venues from Friday.

If you are attending an event soon, where can you get a Covid pass?

How to get a Covid pass

An NHS COVID Pass will show your coronavirus vaccination details or test results. This is also known as your COVID-19 status.

According to the NHS website, you can get an NHS COVID Pass digitally through the NHS App or the online NHS COVID Pass service.

However, the app has crashed with thousands of people rushing to download their passes – so you may need to be patient.

For those who can’t apply digitally via the NHS App or website, you can ask for an NHS Covid Pass letter to be sent to you in the post.
