The two 13-year-old boys were shot near a set of garages in Norton, in Stoke-on-Trent, after 10pm on Wednesday night. One of the boys was taken to Royal Stoke University and the other received treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Detective Inspector Pete Goodwin, from CID, said: “Detectives are working tirelessly to establish exactly what happened and who is responsible.
“I’m appealing for anyone with information or who saw what happened to get in touch with us as soon as possible, as they may have vital information.
“If you live in the area please check your CCTV and if you were driving in that area at around 10pm last night please check your dashcam footage.
“Extra officers will be in the area to offer reassurance.”
Neither of the boy’s injuries are life-threatening or life-changing.
Police are undertaking a forensic examination of the scene, according to Stoke-on-Trent Live.
A police car remains at the scene this morning with a cordon in place at the garages.
Images show the police and the cordoned-off area in Borrowdale Road, located off Spragg House Lane.
