Hit and run driver killed a pensioner in a Tesco car park

The pensioner was flown to hospital by air ambulance but passed away the next day.

The driver is alleged to have fled the scene.

Detectives arrested two men following the collision at the Tesco store at the Coppetts Centre, Colney Hatch, north London, on Saturday evening.

They were released pending inquiries and police said efforts are ongoing to trace the driver.

Detective Inspector Ian Watson, from the Met Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The car park was extremely busy when this occurred. If you saw anything or captured events on dashcam or a mobile device, get in touch.”

The Yard said in a statement: “Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.”

“Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the man died on Sunday. His next of kin have been informed.” Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call police on 020 8246 9820, reference 4826/24SEP.

Meanwhile, two officers are fighting for their lives after their marked police car collided with a BMW while answering a 999 call.

The pair were taken to Adden­brooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, after the incident at Eriswell, Suffolk, early on Sunday morning.

The BMW driver, a man in his 20s, was held at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
