Heartbroken family pays tribute to 'loveable rogue' stabbed to death at house
Tributes have been paid to a young man ‘who lit up a room’ after he was stabbed to death in London.
Steven Fry, 33, was killed at a house on Ringlet Close in Newham around 3am on Friday.
A woman, 43, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. It’s understood she has since been bailed.
Thirty heartbroken family and friends gathered at a vigil on Saturday evening to remember ‘loveable rogue’ Steven, who went by the nickname Bevan.
Older brother Warren Fry told MyLondon he still ‘doesn’t believe’ the news as it ‘hasn’t hit him’.
He said: ‘He was my baby brother. We always teased him that he was the runt of the litter…
‘If you say Bevan Fry from Canning Town, everyone you spoke to would say he had a heart of gold, and he did.
‘He’d put friends and family first before himself, most of the time.’
Warren added that the area had a reputation for being ‘rife with knife crime’.
Some mourners left bottles of alcohol among flowers last night to honour Steven who was known as a party boy.
Sister Carly, 31, said her big brother was ‘one of her favourite people’ and had inspired her to go into youth work.
She said: ‘We called him “Little Steven” even though he was a tall guy. It’s because his dad is also called Stephen.
‘The best way of describing him is a loveable rogue. He wasn’t perfect, he did things he shouldn’t have done but everyone that meets him thinks he’s got a heart of gold.
‘He once saw an old lady get robbed so he robbed the people who did it and gave the stuff back to her.
‘When you spoke to him he’d just light up the room. He one of my favourite people.
‘Even I hadn’t seen him for a week he’d give me the biggest hug. I’d be so happy to see him.
‘I work with young offenders round the corner. His troubles when he was a teenager inspired me. He’s the reason I try and help other people.’
