Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared a shocking insight into their strained relationship with some members of the Royal Family last week Speaking to chat show host Oprah Winfrey, Harry admitted there has been “space” between him and William, but he hoped the pair could heal their strained relationship over time. Last week, the Duke of Cambridge also told reporters that he had not yet spoken to Harry following his explosive claims.
The brothers are reportedly planning to reunite publicly in July as they will stand together at the unveiling of a statue for their late mother, Princess Diana, at Kensington Palace, on what would have been Diana’s 60th birthday.
But it may come too late for the pair to make up for lost time.
An insider told PEOPLE: “It’s a sad state of affairs, because William and Harry could have been so brilliant.
“To think of what they could have achieved together is almost heartbreaking.”
Earlier this week, Oprah’s friend Gayle King said that Harry and William were in touch over the weekend.
She told CBS This Morning: “The word I was given was that those conversations were not productive.
“But they are glad that they have at least started a conversation.
“And I think what is still upsetting to them is the palace keep saying they want to work it out privately, but yet, they believe these false stories are coming out that are very disparaging against Meghan, still.”
Harry told Oprah he was on a “different path” to William, who will one day be king.
He said: “As I’ve said before, I love William to bits. He’s my brother.
“We’ve been through hell together. I mean, we have a shared experience. But we’re on different paths.
“The relationship is space at the moment. And time heals all things, hopefully.”

The Duke also added he felt trapped in the Royal Family and shared his “compassion” for his brother and father Prince Charles being unable to leave their roles.
He said: “My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don’t get to leave.
“And I have huge compassion for that.”
Last Thursday, William broke his silence about Harry’s claims as he visited an east London school with his wife Kate.
A reporter asked the Duke of Cambridge if he had spoken to Harry yet.
William replied: “No, I haven’t spoken to him yet but I will do.”
Meghan also spoke about Kate during the interview to address claims she had made Kate cry during a dress fitting ahead of her lavish 2018 royal wedding.
But she said the “reverse” happened as it was Kate who made her cry instead.
She added Kate “owned it” and apologised with flowers and a note “to take accountability”.
Kate has not personally responded to Meghan’s claims.
The two couples were last pictured together at a Commonwealth Day service on March 9 last year.
