Lotty, a mixed breed who was rescued from Romania, was last seen out in the Minnadhu and Sandways beach area at around 10am on Sunday, August 1. Owner, Alice Anne, who had recently got married, said the pooch suddenly “bolted” when she dropped her lead while on the beach.
To help widen the search for their beloved dog, the couple posted a Facebook appeal asking people in Plymouth and Cornwall to help with the hunt.
Alice’s post on Facebook read: “Lost over near Kingsand, very nervous and will bolt or be hiding somewhere.
“Wearing purple harness and collar, extendable lead was attached. Called Lotty and is a rescue.”
She added: “She’s bigger than a spaniel, with long legs and a slim body. She has a tail that curls over.”
Despite putting up posters around Cawsand and Kingsand and holding a silent search on Saturday, August 8, the trail went cold.
Fortunately, on Tuesday, August 10, Lotty was spotted by a drone near Kingsand.
A Facebook post shared by Sky View Media, who organised the search, said: “Today we were full of hope, nerves and determination.
“We kept an eye on the weather and the first chance we got we went on the search for Lotty.
“Going over from Saltash to Cawsand there was an awful lot of sea mist and we were worried we wouldn’t be able to launch one of our drones.
“Luckily, as we drove down towards the beaches the sky was clear.
“After 90 minutes of searching and very quickly running out of our final fully charged battery we looked in the thick shrubs by where Lotty was last seen and with only three minutes left of flight time we spotted her.”
The owners were contacted and came to help rescue her.
As reported on TeamDogs, passing locals and walkers also stopped to lend a hand, including bringing tools to cut the shrubs.
The post added: “Luckily, Lotty although very nervous, made it out safe and relatively well and into the arms of her owner.
“It has been a very emotional, hot, tiring and great day and we’re just so happy that we were able to help reunite a lovely pooch with her family!”
