Has Meghan Markle influenced the Duchess of Cambridge’s style transformation?
Laura Antonia Jordan made the claim in a piece for Grazia’s Holiday Issue. Last year, Kate gave birth to Prince Louis on St. George’s Day. Ms Jordan wrote: “Since returning from maternity leave in October, Kate has been embracing a slightly younger aesthetic, said to be a deliberate move on her part.
“It’s certainly true that her long-term stylist Natasha Archer recently returned from maternity leave. That said, Kate is said to be working with Ginnie Chadwyck-Healey, the ex-Vogue staffer and old friend from St. Andrews, who styled her in the interim.
“Items such as Kate’s Gucci blouse – and the seven new labels she’s introduced to her wardrobe over the last six months – are said to be Ginnie’s influence. And Meghan’s arrival in the firm likely has something to do with it. Since becoming the Duchess of Sussex, the new royal has exemplified a sleek, modern wardrobe”.
In a March visit to Henry Fawcett Children’s Centre she wore a purple Gucci blouse along with jigsaw wide-leg trousers.
The blouse is listed at £790 on Net-A-Porter.
The blouse’s description says it is supposed to be worn with the buttons on the back but Kate wore them at the front.
Another example of this supposed new modern look is the MiH culottes and broderie anglaise shirt she wore as she ventured to the Chelsea Flower Show.
The camel hued culottes cost £69.95 and were designed by Massimo Dutti.
The Mabel Bordorie-Anglaise shirt cost £255 but her Surperga trainers, which the Duchess has worn on several occasions cost lower at £50.
When she attended the christening for Meghan’s son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor she wore a pink Stella McCartney dress she also wore to the Queen’s Christmas lunch.
Ms Jordan said the decision to re-wear pieces would endear her to the British people and may have been influenced by sustainability concerns.
The fashion writer wrote that the change in wardrobe was not a massive overhaul but tweaked to give her a more modern look.
Ever since she become a member of The Firm, the fashion industry has noticed the so-called “Kate Middleton effect”, where her outfit choices that inspire American consumers and can help brands break into the market.
