New details of Prince Harry’s book were released last week after the publisher announced that the 416-page memoir would be titled ‘Spare’ and cover the Duke’s journey from “trauma to healing”. The title of the book has sparked mixed opinions as it is believed to reference the saying “the heir and the spare”. But a royal commentator thinks there might be a different meaning behind the “clever” title. Jonathan Sacerdoti said the title is “very sad” but the Duke “might as well have just called it victim” instead.
However, he also hinted that it could be in response to being a “bit-part player in the Meghan show” since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals.
Mr Sacerdoti told Express.co.uk: “I personally think it’s a clever title for the publishers and a sad title for him to have chosen.
“There will be those who look at that title and wonder if it also describes how he feels in relation to his current relationships going forward outside of the UK.
“We have seen a lot of Meghan in the media in recent years but not so much Prince Harry, who is something of a bit-part player in the Meghan show.
Mr Sacerdoti believes the narrative surrounding the couple “is about to shift” to centre around Harry with the release of his book and series five of the Netflix hit series, The Crown.
He said: “We have generally seen Meghan taking centre stage so the title spare could be turned around on him in relation to that.
“I think it’s about to shift, he is about to be the centre of attention again when The Crown and his memoir come out.”
Speaking about the book last year, the Duke himself said he hope that in telling his story, he “can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think”.
He added: “I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

The book, it is thought, will explore Harry’s perspective of the death of his mother, Princess Diana, right up to his decision to step down as a senior royal in March 2020.
His publisher said: “Spare takes readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow-and horror.
“As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling and how their lives would play out from that point on.”
Spare was initially due to be published in the autumn but was delayed until the new year after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022.
