Princes William and Harry both rushed to Balmoral yesterday following the news the Queen was taken ill at her Scottish home. Now the Queen has died, one royal expert has urged the brothers to bury the hatchet of their longstanding feud.

The Queen died yesterday at her Scottish estate Balmoral, in Aberdeenshire, aged 96.

Royal Family members rushed to be by her side, with both Prince Harry and William travelling urgently to Scotland.

Prince William travelled with the Earl and Countess of Wessex and Prince Andrew and arrived at Balmoral an hour before the announcement of her death was made.

Prince Harry flew from Luton airport via private jet to Aberdeen but was mid-air when the death of his grandmother was announced.

Prince Harry has been in the UK and Germany this week along with his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, for a series of engagements.

It was not known if the brothers would meet, despite being only a stone’s throw apart on the Windsor estate earlier this week.

The Dukes have not been on speaking terms since the airing of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

The interview, in which the Duchess of Sussex accused an unnamed family member of racism, has driven a significant wedge between the couple and the wider Royal Family.

The Duchess also talked about feeling suicidal while she worked in the palace.

The Queen expressed concern over the issues the interview raised.

More recently, Meghan gave another tell-all interview to New York magazine The Cut, in which she suggested Prince Harry had lost his father amid their breakaway from the firm.

The Sussexes last met with the Royal Family during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June, but no details of their meeting have been made public.

But one royal expert has said the differences between the princes should be swept aside in light of yesterday’s news.

Camilla Tominey said: “Despite all that has been said and done since the Sussexes stepped down from public duties in March 2020, the Queen has always insisted – both publicly and privately – that Harry and Meghan ‘remain much-loved members of the family’.

“Nothing would have made her happier than for her warring grandsons to have finally put their differences aside in her hour of need.”

The Queen last met with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in June amid the celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee.

They introduced her to their daughter Lilibet – named in honour of Her Majesty’s childhood nickname – for the first time.

Tensions will remain high between the Sussex camp and the royals, with the publication of Prince Harry’s memoir due this winter.

However, it is unknown at this stage whether it will still be published soon given the passing of the Queen.

There is also the question of whether the Sussexes will accept Prince and Princess titles for their two children, which they are entitled to given that they are now grandchildren of a monarch.

Prince Harry and his wife remain the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but Prince William and Catherine have become the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Cornwall, and will in time become the Prince and Princess of Wales.
