Harry put HRH title on Lilibet's birth certificate after agreeing not to use it
Prince Harry listed himself as ‘His Royal Highness’ on what appears to be Lilibet’s birth certificate, despite his high profile exit from royal duties.
HRH was given as Harry’s last name on the document, while the Duke of Sussex was listed as his first.
Meghan on the other hand has ditched her royal titles altogether and her name is given as Rachel Meghan Markle.
She was listed as Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex on Archie’s birth certificate – but only after the palace made her change it.
Both Harry and Meghan were told not to use the HRH titles in January last year as they were ‘no longer working royals’.
Under the agreement dubbed ‘Megxit’ they were allowed to continue being known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex but were stripped of many other patronages and honorary military titles.
TMZ obtained a copy of the birth certificate which has been made public in the US state of California, where the couple now live.
It confirms Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born at 11.40am on June 6 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, close to the couple’s mansion.
Both parents are taking long periods of leave to care for the baby, although Harry is due back in the UK today to attend an unveiling of a statue of his late mother Princess Diana.
Last year, Harry agreed to retain his HRH title but never use it when he quit royal life to start a portfolio career in the US.
He was recently listed as HRH an an exhibit at the current Princess Diana exhibition at Kensington Palace but the Royal Collection Trust has now removed the reference, saying it was an ‘administrative error.’
In 2019, it emerged that Meghan’s name had been changed on Archie’s birth certificate, with her Christian names disappearing.
Upon reports that Meghan herself has asked for the revision, the Sussexes released a statement insisting that move had been ‘dictated by the Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials’.
