After Harry’s comments regarding his father and his upbringing, one royal expert praised the Prince of Wales for rising above the attacks. Not only have the attacks hurt Charles but royal commentator Marlene Koenig claimed the Duke of Sussex had been “unfair” to his father. While it is uncertain if there has been any one-on-one contact between the pair since Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex confirmed their split from the Firm, Ms Koenig claimed Charles had been a hands-on father.

Ms Koenig also claimed Harry should attempt to understand what his father went through rather than criticising him.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Ms Koenig said: “We don’t know if there’s been any backchat, any private messages things like that but, with Harry saying his father said, ‘it’s going to be the same for you’ and then Harry thinking ‘I don’t want this for my child’.

“You don’t lash out at your father, you understand you can make the situation different.

“What William is doing is changing within the confines of the royal family.

“Charles and Diana were far more hands-on parents than their parents were.

“It changes and now William and Catherine are much more hands-on than Charles and Diana were so there’s this moving anyway so I think it was unfair of Harry to say that knowing his upbringing was different from his parents.”

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry claimed the Firm had left the pair neglected as his wife struggled to adapt to the increased media attention.

In the series, titled ‘The Me You Can’t See’, Harry said he had become trapped within the institution.

He said: “I thought my family would help, but every single ask, request, warning, whatever it is, just got met with total silence or total neglect.

“That was one of the biggest reasons to leave.

“Feeling trapped and feeling controlled through fear, both by the media and by the royal system itself, which never encouraged the talking about this kind of trauma.

“But certainly now, I will never be bullied into silence.”

In a separate interview with the US actor Dax Shepard, Harry also claimed Charles had passed on a cycle of trauma to his son.

Speaking to the actor on his Armchair Expert podcast, Harry claimed he wanted to break that cycle of trauma within the family.

He added: “It’s a lot of genetic pain and suffering that gets passed on anyway.

“So we as parents should be doing the most we can to try and say, ‘You know what? That happened to me, I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen to you’.

“I never saw it, I never knew about it, and then suddenly I started to piece it together and go, ‘OK, so this is where he went to school, this is what happened, I know this about his life, I also know that is connected to his parents so that means he’s treated me the way he was treated, so how can I change that for my own kids?”

Away from the row with the Firm, Harry and Prince William will unveil a statue of their mother today.

The statue will be revealed in Kensington Palace’s Sunken Gardens in what would’ve been Diana’s 60th birthday.

It will be the first time the two brothers have come together since the pair joined family members at Prince Philip’s funeral.
