The Duke of Sussex is rumoured to be returning to the UK in the summer to unveil a statue of his late mother alongside William. Princess Diana was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997 and last August marked 23 years since her death.

The statue of the late Princess of Wales commissioned by Harry and William is expected to be installed to mark what would have been her 60th birthday.

Kensington Palace previously said the sculpture will be placed in the garden of the London palace on July 1, 2021.

Speaking in a video for the Telegraph, royal expert Camilla Tominey explained that the brothers will have to put on a “united front” after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

She said: “All eyes are going to be closely on both sides this summer because there are a number of key events.

“The date that is firmly inked into the diary is this July 1st unveiling of the statue to Princess Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday.

“And I’ve been told it’s unthinkable that either brother would pull out of that engagement.

“Both of them have worked and collaborated on the statue and its design.

“I think regardless of what’s going on behind palace gates they’re going to have to put on a united front because the world’s press will be watching.”

The Sussexes’ highly anticipated primetime Oprah interview aired in the UK earlier this month on ITV.

Meghan and Harry discussed their experience as senior royals and raised a number of concerns including issues of racism and mental health.

During the Oprah interview, Harry said he is on a “different path” to William and claimed his brother is trapped “within the system”.

He added: “The relationship is space at the moment. And, you know, time heals all things, hopefully.”

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said in response to allegations made in the interview that “recollections may vary” but the issues will be addressed privately.
