Harry and Meghan’s rift with William and Kate ‘will never be healed’ – insider

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s rift with Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales “will never be healed” after everything that has happened, Palace insiders told royal author Tom Quinn.

Relations between the the two camps have unravelled in recent years, with Harry and Meghan’s move stateside creating greater distance for the royals once dubbed the ‘Fab Four’.

Deeply held grievances were then cemented with the release of Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare in January, which saw Harry make a series of explosive claims about William and Kate.

Speaking to Quinn, author of Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family, Palace aides who worked closely with Sussexes and the Prince and Princess of Wales have revealed the extent of the rift.

“People I’ve spoken to who work for both William and Kate say this is never really going to be healed,” Quinn told Express.co.uk.

Palace staff told Quinn that “privately there’s a lot more anger than there is publicly, especially about the accusation William physically assaulted Harry”.

He added: “Apparently William is furious.”

In Spare, Harry claims his brother physically attacked him as their relationship frayed over the Duke’s marriage to Meghan Markle.

Recounting a tense exchange at his London home in 2019, Harry says William called Meghan “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”, which Harry calls a “parrot[ing of] the press narrative” about his American wife.

The confrontation then turned physical, Harry writes, when William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor”.

In another passage, Harry claims the Prince and Princess of Wales played a minor part in his ill-advised decision to wear a Nazi costume at a private gathering.

The pair, he wrote in his 416-memoir, “howled” when he showed them his deeply offensive outfit picked for a fancy dress party.

While Spare undoubtedly contributed to the worsening of relations, it’s not the only factor.

Another interpretation is that Meghan struggled to find her place within the Royal Family, which gave expression to deep-seated feelings Harry had long harboured about the institution and his place within it.

Harry’s position within the royal hierarchy is thought to have fuelled a long-standing sibling rivalry with William – and the title of his memoir does little to disguise the role he sees himself in.

Harry is still fifth-in-line to the throne. His father Charles is King, his brother, William is first-in-line and William’s children – Prince George, Prince Charlotte and Prince Louis – are second, third and fourth-in-line, respectively.

Harry’s son Prince Archie is sixth-in-line for the throne and daughter Princess Lilibet is seventh-in-line.

The Duke of Sussex’s position within the hierarchy was on full display at his father’s Coronation on May 6.

On Saturday, the Palace confirmed that he would have “no formal role” at the King’s Coronation.
