Harry and Meghan to return to New York after ‘near catastrophe chase’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will return to New York for the first time since their “near catastrophic car chase”.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will host their first in-person Archewell Foundation event which will take place on World Mental Health Day on October 10.
A source said Meghan and Harry are being hands-on with parents involved in next week’s event, with some suffering tragic losses in connection to social media.
But the trip is also notable as Harry and Meghan have not been back to the Big Apple since May, where they claimed to have been in a “near catastrophic car chase”.
At the Archewell event, Harry and Meghan aim to build awareness on how to make online usage a safer space for parents and children.
The source told PEOPLE: “The families have been engaged with The Archewell Foundation for the past year, bolstering community and driving towards solutions.
“Together, they are united in their mission to share personal experiences, data, and research to ensure the same does not happen to other families.”
In May, Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson made a statement on the car chase, saying the “relentless pursuit” from paparazzi lasted more than two hours.
They added it resulted in near collisions with other drivers on the road, pedestrians, and police officers.
The couple were said to have been “extremely upset and shaken” by the alleged incident.
Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland, who was also in the car, was said to have been particularly “terrified”.

Last year, the day after World Mental Health Day, Meghan opened up on her now-defunct podcast Archetypes about how Harry found her a referral to a mental health professional when she was at her “worst point.”
“I mean, I think at my worst point, being finally connected to someone that, you know, my husband had found a referral for me to call. And I called this woman,” Meghan said in conversation with activist and Bollywood star Deepika Padukon.
“She didn’t know I was even calling her. And she was checking out at the grocery store. I could hear the little beep, beep, and I was like, ‘Hi,’ and I’m introducing myself and that you can literally you’re going, wait, sorry.
“I’m just. Who is this? Um, and saying I need help. And she could hear the dire state that I was in.”
