Meghan Markle stunned royal observers during her Oprah Winfrey interview when she claimed that the Royal Family were actively trying to block Archie becoming a prince or recieving a title. She told Oprah: “They were saying they didn’t want him to be a prince or princess, not knowing what the gender would be, which would be different from protocol.” However, ITV News Producer and co-host of the Royal Rota Lizzie Robinson debunked this claim.

She said that “Archie was entitled” to a title when he was born – and would also become a prince when Charles takes the throne.

Speaking on Royal Rota, ITV News Royal Editor Chris Ship said: “Meghan was alleging that when Prince Charles becomes king, and Archie becomes a grandchild of a monarch, he would and should automatically become a prince.

“But she was alleging that the Royal Family were actively trying to change that for him.”

Ms Robinson responded: “She was asked by Oprah about Archie’s titles, and that’s where the comments around the colour of Archie’s skin came up.”

She continued: “Archie at the moment isn’t entitled to be a prince. Only the first born of Prince William, Prince George, is entitled to be a prince.

“But, the Queen intervened for Princess Charlotte and Prince Louius so they were all princes and princesses.”

In December 2012, the Queen issued a letter which said that all of Prince William’s children would be entitled to be princes or princesses and get the HRH title.

Mr Ship asked: “Why didn’t the Queen intervene for Archie? She could have done.”

Ms Robinson explained: “Well – Archie was entitled to take one of Harry’s subsidiary titles.

“Harry is the Duke of Sussex, one of his subsidiary titles is the Earl of Dumbarton.

“Archie was entitled to take that title. But we were told at the time that he would be Master Archie, that he was a private citizen.”

Mr Ship followed this up: “That was spun at the time as Harry and Meghan’s decision. It matched what they were saying at the time.

“But given what Meghan said, that the Palace were lying about them, I don’t know who to believe.”

Ms Robinson added: “When Prince Charles becomes King, his grand-children are allowed to become princes and princesses.

“Meghan claimed that would be removed. But we have never heard that before.”

Mr Ship remarked: “Anyone who is a grandchild of the monarch would automcailly become prince or princess. If they were thinking of changing it, they would be stupid to do that now!”
