Happiest places to live in the UK in 2021 are revealed
Hexham is Britain’s happiest place to live, according to a poll of more than 21,000 people.
The Northumberland market town last topped Rightmove’s ‘happy at home’ index in 2019 and has since snatched the title back from St Ives in Cornwall, which was awarded the title last year.
Friendliness, green spaces and local amenities were just some of the measures which determined where places ranked on the list.
Derek Kennedy, mayor of Hexham, said: ‘We are a small town with great history, Hexham Abbey and other historical buildings, and our marketplace is 800 years old.
‘There is a wonderful community spirit, people are very supportive of one another.’
‘The open countryside is wonderful with Hadrian’s Wall on our doorstep.
‘We all know how great it is to live in Hexham but to win this accolade is fantastic.’
With the average house price standing at just over £297,000, this is also lower than the average across Britain (£342,401).
