Greta Thunberg fails to convince own father as he admits he’s ‘not proud’ of eco activist
Climate campaigner, Greta Thunberg, guest edited BBC Radio 4’s Today show, and included an interview with her father, Svante Thunberg. The young activist travelled the world this year to campaign for climate action, and was accompanied by her father. Because of her interest in the climate, her parents made changes to their family’s life but they did not originally support her public stance in protesting at the Swedish Government.
When asked how proud he was of his daughter, Mr Thunberg stunned the BBC host by replying: “Not at all.
“I don’t care about pride. I think pride is just nothing.”
When pressed on Greta’s achievements in “galvanising” people around the world for her cause, he replied: “She’s happy.
“I’m proud that I’ve maybe contributed just a tiny bit because I listened.”
He continued: “My wife and I decided to listen to her.
“I’m pleased about the fact that we chose to listen to her because it made her happy, that I can say.
“When she decided, we said quite clearly that we were not supportive.
“We said ‘if you’re going to do this, you’re going to do it by yourself’.”
Mr Thunberg told the Today show: “Obviously, we thought it was a bad idea.
“The idea of your own daughter putting herself at the front line of a huge question like climate change.
“You wouldn’t want that as a parent.”
