Grandmother detained as 'beautiful' boy, 5, stabbed to death at home

The parents of a boy, 5, found dead at home from a stab wound have paid tribute to their ‘beautiful’ and ‘happy’ child.

David-Mario Lazar, known to his family and friends as Mario, was being looked after by his grandmother Elena Anghel while his mum and dad were at work, it is believed.

He was found by police at a house in Earlsdon, Coventry, just before 6pm on Tuesday.

A post mortem examination confirmed he died from a stab wound.

His devastated parents Cristina and Dorinel released a statement today saying: ‘Our son, he was the most beautiful child in the world.

‘He was a very happy boy. He was always smiling from when he woke up to when he went to sleep.

‘He had so much energy. He loved to dance and sing. He is all of our hearts, all our love and is everything to both of us.’

Police said a 49-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder, who is known to the family, has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

They said the property remains sealed off while they carry out a forensic examination.

Superintendent Ronan Tyrer, from Coventry Police, said: ‘Our investigation continues into the desperately sad death of David-Mario.

‘Our specialist officers are supporting his parents and we cannot comprehend the grief they must feel. Our thoughts are with them.

‘David-Mario’s school has been informed and they are contacting parents and carers of their pupils. The community are shocked and saddened by this young boy’s death.

‘We continue to urge people to avoid speculation on social media or sharing posts which could ultimately add to the family’s distress.’

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘On arrival, crews discovered a boy in a serious condition. He was already receiving medical attention from police colleagues.

‘Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save the boy and he was confirmed dead at the scene.’
