A 22-year-old Just Stop Oil protester has sent a desperate message on climate emergency while standing on an overhead gantry above the M25. The activist, who said he wanted to research sustainable manufacturing after graduating as a mechanical engineer, said he now believes he will have a “much greater” impact on the world by “taking up civil disobedience”.
The protester said: “My name is George, I am 22 years old and I live in Leeds and this summer I graduated studying mechanical engineering. And what I really want to be doing is research sustainable manufacturing.
“But I’ve realised there’s no point in any of that if in my lifetime millions of people die as a result of the climate crisis. I realised I can have a much greater impact if I take up civil disobedience.
“So that’s why I’m standing over the M25 right now to cause disruption and demand an end to our government’s fossil fuel licensing. It’s a piece of cake.”
