In a furious retort, Mr McCoy issued a scathing response after social media user, Toby Anderson claimed the former BBC man had been removed from the channel for the rest of the week. The user said: “Breaking: Simon McCoy sacked from GB News for the week.” In response, Mr McCoy replied: “Do you have a lawyer?”
The social media user then joked he would see the GB News man in court.
Mr McCoy will move to take over the morning slot to host the breakfast show with Kirsty Gallacher.
The former BBC man is moving following Guto Harri’s resignation from the news channel.
Mr Harri sparked controversy after taking the knee in support of the three England players who received racist abuse online.
He was initially suspended from the channel for an “unacceptable breach” of conduct.
In a statement earlier this month, Mr Harri confirmed his intention to step down from the channel.
He said: “Before I took the knee on air I discussed it with my producer, director, co-presenters and head of newsroom.
“After I did it, GB News captured the moment and proactively cascaded it on social media.

“Two days later you told me you wanted me to take a break for the summer.
“You did not say you were briefing papers and issuing a statement that accused me of breaching your editorial standards.
“I asked you to change that on the night – pointing out it was defamatory.
“You ignored my texts and refused to take my calls.

“I now see that you’ve hired Nigel Farage who immediately declared in public that he will not be taking the knee.”
As part of a wider reshuffle, GB News also confirmed the introduction of Nigel Farage.
Mr Farage will now host an hour-long show at 7pm from Monday to Thursday.
He said: “I believe in Andrew Neil.

“He is one of the most intelligent broadcasters we have seen in our lifetime and will make GB News a great success.”
Former leader of the DUP, Arlene Foster also joined the channel this week.
Asked why she joined the channel, she said: “First of all, I see it as an opportunity to have space for a civilised discussion in a meaningful way.
“Very often, political programmes are short and snappy and there’s not an opportunity to develop stories, so that’s one of the reasons.
“And of course the second reason is to bring Northern Ireland very much into the mainstream of UK politics.
“It’s something I feel very passionate about, something I have thought since I was a student, a very long time ago, so that is the opportunity here in GB News and I’m really looking forward to it.”
