Revealing they had been warned to expect a “revisionist” version of Meghan and Harry’s love story, work and struggles within the Royal Family, the source told the Daily Mail: “It’s going to be the gospel according to Meghan and Harry, so to speak. Everything that has happened in terms of Megxit will be seen through the prism of their take on events.
“What it’s unlikely to reveal, however, is how it subsequently emerged that Harry and Meghan had been quietly plotting their ‘exit’ from the Royal Family for at least nine months before they finally announced their decision to quit in January this year.
“That hurt a lot of people who had bent over backwards to protect them.”
Meghan herself opened up on how she felt during her months as full-time working royals in legal papers filed in regards of her legal case against The Mail on Sunday’s publisher Associated Newspapers.
Answering questions raised by the Associated Newspapers’ lawyers, Meghan’s legal team said in the official documents: “The Claimant had become the subject of a large number of false and damaging articles by the UK tabloid media, specifically by the Defendant, which caused tremendous emotional distress and damage to her mental health.
“As her friends had never seen her in this state before, they were rightly concerned for her welfare, specifically as she was pregnant, unprotected by the Institution, and prohibited from defending herself.”
Her comments were initially believed to have been addressed to members of the Royal Family.
However, a source told The Times last month the Duchess of Sussex’ feelings were towards her former PR team at Kensington Palace and its ‘never complain, never explain’ mantra.
The Sussexes’ biography, Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, is expected to focus on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ engagement, marriage and months as working royals.
The book by royal authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand is due to be released next month – but extracts are expected to be released as soon as over this weekend.
The authors have revealed they spoke with “those closest to the couple” to write their book.
But sources have claimed Meghan and Harry have also spoken directly to the journalists.
One insider told the Daily Mail: “When they realised that it was likely to be quite the hagiography anyway, it seems the Sussexes decided to kill it with kindness.”
The book has promised to reveal “unknown details” of Meghan and Harry’s life together as well as “dispelling the many rumours and misconceptions that plague the couple on both sides of the pond”.
The description provided of the book added: “As members of the select group of reporters that cover the British Royal Family and their engagements, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand have witnessed the young couple’s lives as few outsiders can.
“With unique access and written with the participation of those closest to the couple, Finding Freedom is an honest, up-close, and disarming portrait of a confident, influential, and forward-thinking couple who are unafraid to break with tradition, determined to create a new path away from the spotlight, and dedicated to building a humanitarian legacy that will make a profound difference in the world.”
Mr Scobie was one of the selected reporters invited to attend Meghan’s final engagement at Buckingham Palace in March.
Before flying across the pond to start her new life with Archie and Harry, Meghan met at Buckingham Palace’s 1844 Room 22 students who had received scholarships from the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
