‘Goddess of Remain’ Gina Miller’s Labour support must be ‘huge embarrassment’ for Corbyn

The Tory candidate told TalkRADIO’s Julia Hartley-Brewer that he finds fascinating how the Remain United website, supported by “goddess of Remain” Gina Miller, recommends voters to support Labour in a lot of constituencies to ensure a Remain-supporting candidate wins the election in those particular seats. Given that Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn remains adamant his party will unite Brexiteers and Remainers and aims at representing both sides of the Brexit debate, Mr Evans argued that Gina Miller’s support to his party must be a “huge embarrassment”.

He said: “I got sent an email – I don’t know whether it was a mistake – by Gina Miller who asked me to go on the Remain United site, which is something that she is promoting, where you can put your own postcode in and if you want to see a Remain MP in your constituency, it tells you which party to go for.

“Quite remarkable how many recommendations are Labour candidates.

“I think that must come as a huge embarrassment to Jeremy Corbyn that Gina Miller, the absolute goddess of Remain, is recommending people vote Labour in lots of seats throughout the country in order to ensure a Remain candidate.”

Challenged by BBC host Jo Coburn on her website’s advice to vote for the Labour Party on Tuesday, Ms Miller said: “We’re not advising.

“What we’ve put in is the data and if there is a Labour majority and it’s a safe seat it says no recommendation, you should vote Labour.

“It’s really important on this in Remain United, we’re really trying to say to both parties there’s only one fight right now.

“You can talk about your policies and what you’re doing but unless you actually diminish that Conservative majority.

“If the Conservatives win, you can carry on arguing until the cows come home.

“You’re not going to be able to do anything because you’re not in power.

“If you want to be in power and you want to take the next step then you’re going to have to get rid of the Conservative majority and the only way to do that is working together and being tactical.”

Ms Miller argued her new anti-Brexit website has the best experts and prediction tools meaning it is the most effective out of all the tactical voting websites.

Grilled on her latest project by LBC’s Iain Dale, Ms Miller also said:  “Well if you look back at the 1997 election were tactical voting happened there was about 30 percent of the vote that went the wrong way because of the quality of the advice and the output that was coming in that election.

“If you look at all the different sites it is very confusing.

“I felt that with my team, we have access to some of the best experts and the best prediction tools.

“So by using that and launching it, we’re hoping that we give people a more accurate recommendation but, obviously, the final choice will be up to individual voters.”

She added: “We’ve put no manual overlays and no party biases on this.”
