Glasgow riots: Huge fights break out at protest as hundreds clash in bitter unity feuds

HUGE riots have broken out on the streets of Glasgow after a planned parade was met with “large scale” counter-demonstrations on Friday night.

The riots occurred during an Irish Unity march, which was met with fierce protests.

Reports say that witnesses saw smoke bombs being used.

The counter protests are alleged to be organised by loyalist groups.

Police in Scotland say that hundreds of people were involved, creating “significant disorder” in the Govan area of the city.

Chief Superintendent Mark Hargreaves described the counter-demonstration as “utterly unacceptable”, which caused “fear and alarm to members of the public”.
